Jimmy Leung’s Kitchen is an unassuming looking Chinese restaurant situated in an unassuming strip of shops on Doncaster road in Doncaster East. Despite not being able to find much information on this eatery, JK and I decided to try it out for an after work catch-up.
I got there a few minutes before JK and was the only person in the restaurant. It was 5:30 on a Monday night though, and before we left it had filled up, with couples as well as groups, and there was also a steady take-away trade.
Complimentary prawn crackers were provided and we also had a pot of tea.
We were given English menus but the waitress who took our order struggled so she went and got her glasses and also a copy of the menu that had Chinese characters as well as English.
We started with two entrées. The first of which was the deep fried chicken ribs with spicy pepper salt.
An excellent dish. The batter was crispy and fresh and the chicken was tender. There was buckets of flavours, and the heat from the chillies backed off just before you thought it was too much.
The second entrée was pork buns. I wouldn’t normally go for pork buns as an entrée, it is more of a yum cha dish for me, but JK had never had them so I insisted she give them a go.
A decent rendition but I would probably stick with more traditional entrée dishes if I went back.
For main course we started with the chicken with curry sauce.
And also had the sizzling black pepper fillet steak.
Both dishes were excellent with the beef being the winner for me, just. They both had lots of flavour and appeared to use quality ingredients. We both commented on how tender the beef was.
The servings were very generous and we both kept picking at the food even though we were full, it was too good to leave!
We didn’t need dessert but found the complimentary orange quarters a refreshing finish to our meal.
I don’t know if Jimmy Leung’s Kitchen specialises in any one dish but we did see a lot of people tucking into crab and also a lot of whole fish dishes going out.
I thought the food was extremely good and would go back to this unassuming looking restaurant.

I love how it looks like someone’s living room or office!
Did they have seafood tanks there for the crab? Mmmm!
This place is only a few mins drive from my place (my very first job was at that fish and chip shop a few shops down from Jimmy Leung’s haha). Surprisingly, I’ve never been to Jimmy’s but perhaps I should because it does look great.
