Thai Rose sits above a real estate agent on Nepean Highway, with a view out the back window of Chelsea beach. The entrance is down a lane way and you are greeted at the top of the stairs by the friendly staff.
I was there with KB1 and KB2 for dinner on the January long weekend, and we had gone for a walk on the beach after dropping off our bottle of wine to be kept cool at the restaurant.
The space isn’t huge, but is welcoming, and once the sun glare is gone, the blinds are opened.
While the staff are lovely, they are very slow. It took far too long to take our order and we had to flag them down throughout the evening. The food was slow to come out as well.
Thankfully it was worth the wait. We started with vegetarian spring rolls and curry puffs.
The curry puffs were the pick for me, but the other two preferred the spring rolls, which I thought had a very strong herby taste.
We also had roti with satay sauce. Everyone liked this.
For main course we shared a pad thai with tofu and a tofu noodle dish.
This was some of the freshest and tastiest Thai I have had, it was really good. We were totally stuffed, but kept picking at the food as it was too good to waste.
